I took the plunge, they look so ugly and they're pretty expensive, but they improve the ergonomics of the split joycon configuration considerably. My hands would get so tired playing with or without the basic wrist staps boxed with the Switch.
You don't have to re-position your hand to move your thumb between the buttons and the joystick. It's ever so slightly thicker than a Wii Remote, but more rounded around the edges. Quite comfortable imo.
I don't care about the AA functionality too much because AA batteries are heavy and would add too much weight to the controllers, but it's nice to know I can pop them in if my joycons are about to die and I don't want to charge them yet. It has happened a few times already.
Played hours and hours of BOTW without any strain, and it feels good using the motion look controls in Splatoon 2. I turned off motion control for the Testfire, but with the AA grips I will try it again for the upcoming Splatfest.

Yeah I've been using the grip most of the time, and it's very nice too, but ever since January I've been longing to do this comfortably:

This might be the premiere Joycon AA grip review on the internet btw, I searched long and hard for user impressions and they all suck except for one.
Nobody does a proper review anymore, 10000x news site just copy the announcement then add a sentence or two of what they think the new thing might be about. Lazy journalism.
