What’s wrong with your #1????? wtf!!!!
Excuuuuuuuuse me, princess?
Shifting Sand Land is a masterpiece. Where do I start?
Let’s start in the castle.
Why does this underground area have a dead end, why has the rabbit lead me here? I’m gonna catch this rabbit full sprint and dive into the corner, damnit! BONK! Holy shit that wall just moved like a level painting, here we go!
(you might tell me the rabbit doesn’t appear in the basement until later, but I don’t remember the specifics of when it spawns okay, this is strictly for dramatic narrative!)
“In the Talons of the Big Bird” in “Shifting Sand Land”
Okay, got it, I can’t press A fast enough…
Waaa waaaa woooooong…. wa wa wa wa waaaa wooooooong
The amazing level music starts as Mario flips onto the scene, obviously this track was composed for this level and not Lethal Lava Land. It all makes sense now. Get out the way Shy Guy, Pokey, I’m looking for a big bird.
Then you come to the quicksand area with the “Toy Box” enemies, which is a genius puzzle, and we learn 21 years later that Shiggy regards it as one of his best designs. No biggie, but anyways…
Run up the pillar…THERE’S THE STAR! GET OVER HERE, BIRD! Try to kick it a few times, get burned by the fire sentry at the bottom a few times more.
Alright I don’t have much health now, prepare to meet your match, you greedy vulture!
Haa! WOO! The kick connects! The star jingle plays and I gingerly venture over to collect the star before I am burned again.
GREAT SUCCESS. GREAT LEVEL.
All the other stars are fun too, getting 100 coins is a good challenge since you have to fly around for so many of them.
I mean the camera annoys me a bit in the pyramid section, but overall I have to give Shifting Sand Land a #1 ranking.
