VGDC Weekly Challenge #2 – Get Two Instruments!!! (Random Link’s Awakening DX for GBC)

This week’s objective is simple and yet not: Get the instrument from two dungeons in a randomized Link’s Awakening file. What do I mean by randomized? The entrances, exits, items, and other things are shuffled around and the game itself is modified a bit to make it play like a whole new game! A second quest of sorts, if you will. ROM file is here, or you can use the randomizer tool yourself with a Link’s Awakening DX 1.0 ROM and seed 1186090463, with flags VKIAFCP0. Not even I have played this file, so it could be really crazy! However, it should be doable given the tool has received significant beta testing. If there’s any problems, we’ll start a new seed with new start date, but I played about 3 test ROMs and they were all doable, so most likely any issues are just down to not exploring enough! LETS DO THIS DANG THING!!!!!!!!!

Oh yeah and also I guess I should explain the changes and other important shit.

Some things to note:

-The entire game should be doable with no glitches whatsoever if you want to complete the whole thing!
-Tarin will always give you your shield in the starting house.
-Key shortcut added to game that lets you warp to your house. Press select to bring up the map and then while the map is up press start and B at the same time, and you should return to where you started.
-Warps will not change where they lead when you enter from the other side, and they also won’t change over time. If a cave leads to a dungeon, it always will.
-Dungeons 2, 3, and 5 have been altered to remove some item requirements or doors have been changed so as to make exploration easier if you find them first, and it may be necessary to go through them for an item you need.
-Angular, face, and bird keys placed in chests so as to randomize them. The face key is in a chest after Armos, the angular key is below lanmola, and the bird key has been swapped with a chest.
-There’s an online tracker to easily record what you’ve found and where things are here, it will probably be very useful: https://windfish.io/beta/tracker

Randomizer flags explained:

Shuffle Caves – All entrances to buildings and caves will lead to random places. This includes leaving your house, going in a building, entering warps or caves, or whatever. This means that a store entrance or bombable cave could be hiding a dungeon entrance, so make sure to search well!
Shuffle Sword – The sword will be exchanged with another overworld sprite (enemy or otherwise). The sword will always be out in the open on the overworld and not in a cave. It will also always be obtainable and hopefully not too far away!
Remove some cave obstacles – Some deep water and pits and objects have been modified so as to allow more caves to be explorable. Make sure to check them all out!
Walrus not required – Walrus doesn’t block the desert area by default.
Add new cave above castle – This cave was in the original game but had no entrance. The entrance is now where it was supposed to be in the original game! It originally had a 200 rupee chest, but who knows what’s in there now! You need flippers to go in.
Shuffle Chests – Chests are random and switched with each other in a way that will allow you to still beat the game.
Shuffle Heart Containers – 9/12 heart containers are swapped with a rupee, shell, or bomb chest. The fishing game heart container and diving heart containers are left as is.
More Rupees from Chests – Chest rupee amounts are incremented by one to speed progress, as finding them is harder (so for example 20 rupee chests now give 50, and 50 rupee chests now give 100).
Shuffle Dungeon Palettes – Dungeon Color Palettes are swapped. Useless but fun!
